Evening all.

Hope someone can logically work this one out for me. I'm stumped. Although thats not difficult.:)

Something is not right with my EAS.

If I leave the rangie set at normal height overnight it drops to the bumpstops.:(

If I set the EAS to high before leaving the car, it doesnt drop at all even over a 3 day period. Jump in the car and its still set to high.

If the car is at normal height and i stop and turn the ingnition off (say to fill up with petrol) by the time I start the car again, its dropped to access height.

From access height I have to weight 5/10/15 mins with a door open before I can shut the door and the car will raise to normal height. If I dont do this it takes 20/30 mins to get to normal height as I'm driving (and twice the EAS warning has kicked in with a "air pressure fault" - as diagnosed by the EAS buddy kit)

The airbags are new Arnott gen II kit - theyre not leaking.
There are no leaks at any of the hose lines o ring points (soapy water tests)
The compressor works (checked with EAS buddy and jumping the relay)
If the car has been running for a while (over an hour) then everything works fine, car rises and lowers as required to the correct set heights.

Its not the end of the world as I now set the car to high before jumping out and it lowers fine the next day.

I would like to know whats wrong though and be able to leave the car at a normal height; or even be able to drive straight off after filling up with petrol!!

Thanks for any help!

assuming the air bags are fine and the lines are air tight too, i would suggest a compressor overhaul, its probably the cheapest option as you can diy.

it sounds like the pump isnt able to get enough pressure in quickly, i.e worn seal on piston. as for it dropping from normal overnight that couls be down to the settings. try leaving boot or door open while leaving it for same amount of time you would to fill up( i know this can be a while from empty!!!) also try same with engine running.

if it stays up then i would look at the settings for each sensor as it will be trying to self level and failing then re trying!

Have you tried draining the airtank????

If the air tank has water in it the volume of available compressed air will be reduced.

This might account for the slow lifting after a fuel stop.

If it is going down because it is attempting to self level, you will hear the solenoid block clicking away (bonnet and doors closed). If you can hear this, then you could have a dodgy height sensor, maybe one got clouted when you were doing the bags?

As Gav say's, open the tailgate with the suspension at normal level, this freezes the suspension. If it still goes down you are loosing air perhaps from a dodgy valve, if it stays up could be a sensor.

This sounds like the compressor is failing or the diaphragm is split or pump inlet/outlet NRV failed. Whilst you are waiting with the door open and engine running the compressor is working but no air is being distributed until door is shut. Likewise when you drive distrbution of air stops if you use the brakes, that is maybe why it takes longer to level whilst driving. With engine and pump running take out the inlet filter. Put your finger over the inlet, you should get a vacuum sucking your finger to the inlet. If you do then the NRVs in the pump will be ok. If not strip pump and check inlet outlet NRVs a very small piece of crap stuck under one (usually inlet) will render this useless. Clean and reassemble. Replace 'O' ring on inlet. Next take out the exhaust filter and put your finger over that there should be NO air coming out of this. If there is the diaphragm is split. To replace this you will have to strip air block, very easy to do but diaphagms are quite expensive for what they are. Switch off engine and remove pump mounts then lift pump up until you can remove blue pipe from pump. Start engine, with pump running put your finger over outlet with moderate pressure air should push past your finger. If it does not renew piston seal.

Here's a theory about the EAS dropping...
One or more of your height sensors might be getting tired... i.e. the normal operating range of the potentiometer is worn and giving odd readings, causing the EAS to readjust.
It doesn't do this on EAS high mode because that part of the potentiometer slider isn't used much and is in good nick.

Try swapping your height sensors. They are simply reversed on each side of the vehicle and should then operate in a fresh range. Of course you will want to recalibrate your EAS heights using a FaultMate, EASunlock or similar tool.

It is easy enough to do a refresh of your compressor and valve block. I'm sure it's been documented here and on rangerovers.net. I did mine a few months back and documented it at Cordwell.net » EAS Valve Block Renew but it will soon be moved to http://paulp38a.com

Cheers, Paul.

Wow! Cheers everyone.

Got some stuff to crack on with over the weekend!

I'll let you know how it goes...

Hi, try first what wammers write....
I think you have both problems...,
1. BV (leak in NRV for sure, and perhaps a diagfram ), compressor seal perhaps...(I had the same problem, and solved and inexpansive)
2. Height sensor.

Good Luck!
