I have a feeling that I read that vented discs will fit the defender hub, but I have no idea of the disc diameter - will the existing caliper fit, or can I fit a different caliper to the def hub? Thinking ahead a bit, but with more power and more weight, I want things to be as good as they sensibly can from the standard parts lists. (I will probably spend more on the pads though).

If only I'd put a tenner on you answering first James..

Axle hasn't been delivered yet so don't know the condition of the calipers. If they're not good I'll change them but if they're OK I'd go for spacers. Am I right in thinking that the vented disc therefore has a deeper 'dish' offset, so make up spacers for the difference in that? Or are they available to buy?

spacer goes into caliper so the thicker disc will fit in to them

Ahh - didn't think of that. Now I'm worried. Trying to make an outrageously complicated car and I couldn't even think that through! I'd probably have sawn lumps off the pads to make them fit and not owned up to it in public.

I want this thing to drive nicely from the start and would be putting a seal kit into the calipers anyway. Add that to the price of spacers and new calipers look sensible.

Well, if it was me, I'd just buy the callipers that are suitable for vented discs, and that way you know that everything is new - seals, pistons, gallery seals, the lot.
