Ok, so I've been out in the car and have to say I'm impressed with the kit. It's hardly a Lexus but that wasn't the target.
It's reduced the higher notes within the engine bay down so the engine sounds more muted and deeper sounding. A little like turning the treble down on a stereo?
It's quite noticeable too at motorway speeds with a reduced level of sound transfer.
I think I'll get hold of a 'kit' now consisting of non-cut sheets and start to do the floorpan and rear arches/below the rear windows and see what that does. Total cost will be about 200 quid I reckon if I do it all so worth a punt I'd say given the engine bay improvement.

Thats great. It's much cheaper to buy the boxed plain sheets of silent coat and they are easy to cut and install.

Its probably not as good but it makes a big difference.
I also managed to get some high density sound insulation which is like two sheets of heavy rubber with foam laminated between them, I cut them to shape and put them on the floor under the rubber mat in front, its down to a dull roar now at first I thought I had gone deaf.
Put in a sub woofer and Bobs your aunties live in lover

By the way how is the Bose speaker? I have the smaller one and its amazing.

Our's isnt that bad as its got carpet, rubber mats etc etc but any additional reduction is worthwhile and I know there are opportunities to grab in this regard as you rightly point out above.

Love is a terrible thing,
When you are older and married for many years you will be ble to reflect on the folly and money wasted just because wanting to talk to the misses, all that sticking stuff on, building up carpets, chasing down rattles!
After just 5 years of devoted marriage if you are allowed to keep the landy bet you are either pulling the stuff off of driving wearing ear plugs just for some peace and quiet.

And don’t even start me on transportation of children

The Bose speaker is amazing. So much power and bass for its size and the build quality is amazing!!! Suspect you'd day much the same for the smaller one?

It certainly makes a difference to mine, as mentioned it damps the panels and stops them resonating, you can tell when you shut the bonnet the sound is quite dull, and one £15 pack did my bonnet, needs to be cut and its a bit sticky on a hot day but It is stuck on tight so far. I intend to put some in the back next year as mine has van sides, thought about putting windows in but the last budget made me glad that i did not go for it.

I used some closed cell sticky back foam on the underside of my series 3 bonnet and it made a difference. I wish I had measured the sound level before doing so that I would have a reference point for the level of improvement. My guess is that just doing the bonnet and removing the box of tools from the rear has reduced the noise by 30-40%

I used the garbage roof flashing stuff. Did interior floor boards up to tunnel. Additionally replaced boot rubber and replaced the foam gasket around the shifter. As well, did under the hood. As stated above I'd say a 1/3rd reduction in noise. Have yet to do door panels and roof. Its a pickup so hopefully that will also eventually add to the effectiveness of the reduction in the cab. Prior to this, conversation was strictly a yelling proposition.

I'm tempted to go with some of the cheaper stuff for the rear and see what it does. Thinking the outer panels behind the side facing bench seats and the tops of the arches (under the bums of those sat in the benches)? It's a decent area that's currently got nothing...

I'd do the rear load deck as well but it's got fitted carpet and I don't want to start cutting or lifting that as it'll never go back down again nicely.

Col/dstainton 30-40% is a fantastic result. I don't think I'll get to that point with mine because I'm not sure that's even possible as it was a fairly quiet (for a Landy) proposition to start with.

The loudest thing in the back of ours is the sliding rear windows creaking and squeaking away to thereselves so that gives you an idea.

In fact some cleverly placed cardboard wedges willl probably shut them up. They were quiet until I cleared some moss out of the channels. Now they slide for once but also rattle. Trade off!

SS - It's not foam. It's a sort of sticky bitumen kind of thing.
I'm happy with any reduction of noise. We're doing a 10 hour stint to Orkney in January so frankly i couldnt care a less for 57 quid. If it helps by a dB or two that will count as serious VFM in my book!!

It will make a difference Mate. Probably also worth sourcing an original bonnet pad too. If you do all the inside of the cab the difference is very noticeable.

I've just bought some of the Silent coat. £15 for 10 A4 ish sizes sheets so that's cheap as chips. Got 30 coming so should be able to cover plenty of areas with that. A job for next weekend I think.

Thinking about it if I put the stuff on the outside and join the sheets up nicely I can roll like this

Thx td5 boy why dont you get some side window felt material. Ive done it. On one window no rattles or draught. Lovely only a couple of quid.

Hi Allan. I had a look at those kits previously but the instructions i saw said it was a right royal PITA to fit and to do properly the windows need to come out of the car. There is still some felt left in my windows but clearly not quite enough.
How did you fit yours?

Hi what i did was use a thin knife. And screwdriver and clean out all the old material. And i mesured just a bit longer and fed the material in as i went half at a time but you must remove the handle off the window. Bit fiddley but managed it.

How did you get the felt under the window? Is there enough play to manoeuvre the window around?

hi yes its tight but once you removed it it will fit. plus the infill trim towards the back half the window will go further back then
