Mike at Dynachip came out to me today and mapped my Discovery 2 TD5 manual, my mates Discovery 2 TD5 manual and his mates Discovery 2 TD5 auto...

3 happy customers, they all drive very nicely, no flat spots, loads of power and torque and fingers crossed better mpg once the power giggles are over!

Huge thanks to Mike, lovely bloke, very knowledgeable and professional and great service

I recomend anyone who owns a TD5 to have this done, this is how they should've drove out of the box! :D

I am seriously considering getting this done but I am concerned that it may put extra strain on my engine. Mine has 140k on the clock and I don't want it to die. What do you guys think, would it be ok?

Chris

I've a TD5 D2 with over 170k on the clock and had it remapped, pulls like a train now.
Although I would recommend you have it remapped at a garage who dyno the car first then again after the remap so they can see "live" what's going on and that the revs are limited a bit.

The way I see it is if you drive it like a fairy it wont harm your engine and the extra torque will alow you to use less revs and you'll gain through better mpg, but if you want to give it some it'll pull nicely and smoothly

Mine's done 103k but runs really nicely

As it is just a data logger change on your pcm I don't think it's traceable without having the standard map to compare it to, so I don't think it would effect the insurance, don't quote me on that as I'm not 100% sure

is it custom remap or just a remap?

makes me laugh all these companies that claim to remap cars when all they do is load a pre-made map and that's it.

which in that case, I used to remap cars too.... but I didnt have a clue what I was doing.
I had the injection maps, taken from cars that had been remaped, and then just reload them into the next car...... fokin easy..

however, a true remap, like one of my mates does, its custom made, he knows what all the setings mean and he can adjust everything to suit you and more importantly your car...as a business, not like a cowboy lol

Thinking of using Dynachip and seeing as this post is 4 years old was wondering how people are getting on with it and if they have had any issues? Looking to get a few extra horses but more importantly better mpg

@Landshandy He did mine before the summer. Excellent. He does a quick check of the car to make sure things are all in order before loading the map up then asks how you drive I wanted a balance of more power & the same or more MPG. Went for a run down the road was happy so no further adjustments where really needed.

Power is up, torque is up, MPG is up if I drive properly but wheres the fun in that!? Did have a few spots of black smoke on changing gear but that was solved by fitting a larger intercooler. Which equally has increased MPG and low end power.

Also turned up the boost to 18psi which has also improved driveability.

As for MPG figures pre map was getting 25 - 26 around town 28 - 29 motorway. Now I get 25mpg booting it around - 28mpg if I drive properly around town. motorway generally 33 - 35mpg which is impressive considering all the extra weight i've added and on 80% mud tyres. Better than my old Fiesta!

That said I also have a straight through, decat pipe, EGR black and de-restricted the airflow.

Yeah everyone says good results but wanted to know if anyone who's had one for a few years has had any engine problems. Did he fit the new inter cooler with the remap as part of a stage 3?

Nah I did everything else myself.

Done approx 3k miles with zero issues no faults or otherwise issues showing up on my Nanocom. Looking to fit an EGT gauge soon just to keep an eye on things a bit better along with a hybrid turbo.

No, you can only read, write and download maps not modify. You need other software to actually create a map as well as actually understanding what it all means, one bad figure the engines f ucked.

Interesting, Mike from Dynachip is paying me a visit next Wednesday. All I would like is a fair bit more power in the lower rev band, and smoother gear changes.

Apart from that, I'd be happy. Is there anything else a remap can do that I should consider whilst he's here? Will he plug into a Nano doo dahh thingy and check for faults?

Cheers, bankz,

Although I'm not expecting him to transfer the old girl into a Bugatti Veyron, I am quietly excited as to what he can get the old girl to do.

Think you will be pleasantly surprised, not much will beat you away from the lights unless you let it.Joining traffic at 30 mph from standing start is a breeze, whereas my old 300 tdi had to wait for a gap

Hi Bankz, which intercooler did you buy and was it easy to fit yourself (if you are not indeed a actual mechanic)?
