Has anyone installed a dubble din unit in a freelander 1 i would like to do it but it looks like there isnt enough space

Is there a link to those of us whom already have a FL1 facelift, how the double din is then fitted fully working using the steering wheel audio adjuster to boot, and what double dins have been used ? ant and all replies appreciated.

It's very easy with the facelift version. You just need to loosen the cubby box and take the stereo surround cover off. Then is is just a few screws to remove the single-din part with the tray and the hole becomes double din size.
You will need an double din adapter bracket like the one on this page:
https://incartec.co.uk/landrover/1512/1036/2067/145/Browser.aspx
The new stereo's cage fits into this bracket. The cage is designed to fit in using metal catches that hook onto the bracket, but this resulted in a very loose stereo fit on mine so I attached the cage to the bracket using screws
The steering wheel controls are straightforward but not documented very well. The problem is most stereos don't have a built-in stereo wheel interface but instead need a separate adapter. This adapter makes the button response time slower and costs about £40 so I would recommend finding a new unit that does have the interface. Mine is a Alpine CDW-296BT which seems to be Alpine's only model with this feature.
I also modified the steering wheel buttons with the Discovery 2 version which has a Play / Pause button.
See this post for more details about the steering wheel control wiring:
