I'm looking to put two batteries under the passenger seat in my 200tdi 110 CSW. It looks a bit too tight under there for two batteries without some chopping and welding. Has anyone here got 2 batts fitted there, if so, did it need much mucking about? and any pics would be well appreciated.

Ta, 'bait.

You should be able to get 2 batteries in no problem as loads of other people have done it. Have you thought of getting smaller batteries with the same AH rating.

have you thought about where your going to fit your split charge system and possibly batt. management system... a batt cut off switch might also be an idea. think about these items along with the poss/neg leads as they will be pretty tight into the seatbox ;)

I think I may pop to my local spares shop and see if I can borrow a couple of batteries to see if they fit. As Redhand says, it seems very popular to have a split charge system in the seat box.
I just got an email from Gwyn Lewis 4x4 who sell these
and he says "yes it will fit no problem just drill 6 holes to bolt it down"
The split charge relay I have is really quite small, but with extra cabling for the cut off switches.. spaghetti anyone?
With regard to cut off switches, I use the quick release catches as it makes it easier to disconnect the battery when welding (something which is far too regular on my 110). I always disconnect both terminals, but is that necessary? If I had a cut off switch on both batteries (on the positive terminals), would that be enough to protect the batteries when welding?

Going to do the same with mine. My no.2 battery is currently in the back and is a pain in the arse. I've had a quick measure and it will fit in under the seat so it's just a matter of waiting for a day when I'm in the mood for moving all the cables:eek:

scuse my ignorance but what is the benefit of duel batteries ?

twice the amps so if your running a winch or a caravans electrics or even loads of spots the batteries take twice as long to run flat. Plus with a decent split charge system it stops the main batttery from runnning flat. So you don't have to worry about it not starting due to a flat battery.

I've noticed that there are several types of spilt charge/ battery managment systems around. The split charge relay type are pretty cheap, but the managment systems can cost a fortune. what could the pros and cons be, I'm not sure I want to spend £300 or so on a set up I dont need. My fridge is only used in the summer (fair weather camper) and the winch is seldom used.

I took a measuring tape to the battery in my 110, it measures 20cm to the top of the battery and another 2cms or so for the posts. When I measured a mates optima (its not all about size... so they tell me :( and its 20cms give or take to the top of the posts. That will be why the other battery wouldnt fit rotated 90 deg.
