Freelander 2 (LR2) DTC explanation

I have only heard it in SD4 cars. Apparently it's because of a change in fuel pump software in 2010/2011 MY SD4, whoever wrote the programming failed to delete the coding for the old style pump. Never heard of it being a real world problem, unless you know differently. I would like to know
 
During this cold weather it had been fine at -5’C but this week at -3’C first thing in the morning the car starts but for the first few seconds it runs as though there’s a missfire, although once it’s started it runs normally. I read the codes and the only DTC was the fuel pump authorisation which isn’t normally there.

As the fuel pump has nothing to do with the engine starting, the code is irrelevant.
As said above, it's believed to be a coding error on the SD4.
However your starting issue is likely to be the glow plugs, which last a couple of years on these engines.
Mine had new Bosch glow plugs in November 21, and this winter it's started up on 3 cylinders, rather than the normal 4.
