Hi,
Can anyone help with the following issue please?
Our 1997 P38 DSE drips water from around the gearbox housing and I'm at a total loss as to where its from.

I removed the inspection cover from under the gearbox and the water is dripping from above the gearbox but I can't see any further.

The water is not radiator water as it doesn't taste of anti freeze, its just clean'ish water.

The car doesn't use radiator water and I know the front washer bottle has a leak as it drips directly on the the floor. Could it be related? does the rear washer run a pipe up there or something?

Does anyone have any ideas as to where the water could be from?

Thanks in advance
Richard

This is normal and you want to be thankful it IS dripping.

The water comes from the A/C system and its the moisture from the system draining out of the drain tubes.

You should have two little puddles underneath the vehicle a few inches apart around the gearbox area.

Its when it stops dripping water you need to worry because at that point your drain tubes will be blocked and instead of it draining out of the vehicle it will be draining inside and you will have wet carpets!

Hi Wills,
Thanks for that, its put my mind at rest!
Do you know if it drips regardless whether the aircon is run or not?
What I'm saying is - I don't run the aircon on my car, should it still drip?

Thanks
Richard

If you press the A/C OFF button and the light comes on above the button then the aircon is OFF. When the light above the button is OFF then your A/C is on.

Also, remember, even if you don't have the A/C right down on low and on something like 25 then the A/C still runs to de-humidify the air entering the vehicle.

The dripping will stop if the A/C is off.

Why don't you run the A/C in your P38??

From what you've said I think we've always had the AirCon on then.
I don't run the aircon to basically save fuel.
I once had a Vauxhall Cavalier 4x4 16v turbo and when I ran the aircon it made a noticable impact on the MPG.
I have another thread running about mpg and I have just removed the aircon belt to try and increase the MPG!!!
Maybe i'm just tight...
Thanks for your help Wills!

No probs but I feel I have to reply just to tell you to put the damn belt back on, at least that way you can engage the A/C if you need it :D

I hate telling people how to do something or whatever but if you wanted good fuel economy you should of gone and bought something smaller than a Range Rover :D The A/C system on the RR is fantastic in AUTO mode (when it works :D) and with the summer coming up are you really honestly NOT going to want the A/C at all?? It soon gets very hot inside during the summer. Not only that, you will soon have the vehicle steaming up during certain weathers and this usually happens when its pouring with rain so it's no good putting the window down.

Do yourself a favour, put that belt back on, leave the A/C to do its own thing and just relax and enjoy the drive, you bought a luxury vehicle so enjoy the luxury - plus, in the summer when its hot you wont have the missus nagging you about being hot all the time!

Please don't take any offence at the above, just trying to, er, ummm, save you from the other half :D:D:D
