hi all, I've ploughed through the old threads but can't find anything to help ! Basically, I have a 2006 55 plate FL1 TD4 that has been running like a dream since I did a major overhaul in 2004, including new front discs/pads, recon VCU and all oils changed. About a month ago the car developed a droning noise, noticeable from 5-30 mph, not so noticeable above that, coming from I think the front left of the car. Could it be something as simple as a wheel bearing ? Or ?? There are no other knocking sounds or strange noises, the car has no resistance on full lock forwards or reverse, so hoping it's something not to major !! Any feedback gratefully received, thank you

Sounds just like a wheel bearing. Jack up and check for play, but often there isn't any at first. Spin the wheel while holding the spring - you should feel the vibration you're hearing.

My wife had the dreaded droning noise I looked and her tyres were getting to the wear point so
she had a new set and no more droning

Thanks all, I am near a tyre change and the fronts are quite worn on the inside so will change them and also check the wheel bearings, the car is running fine apart from this small issue, was worried it could be the ird but don't think so now looking at symptoms in other threads

Could be vcu support bearings. I had to replace my genuine lr ones after a year. They are made in India now since the tata deal and don't appear to be good quality.
