Our EAS system has failed (flashing lights and message to drive at 35mph max) drove home a few miles on bump stops. Now we have to get the car to the dealer who is 35miles away.
My question is will it damage the car to drive this distance on the bump stops?
It is 1997 2.5DSE P38

From what I've read, it won't damage it - it will just be quite uncomfortable.

If you put your location, someone near you might have the EAS software and might be able to reset it or at least read the faults for you.

I agree, they are robust little critters and you would have to hit something fairly hard to damage them, but I know from experience, you will not be driving 35 miles on them unless you are a complete nutter. best take advice above and get some one near to try and clear faults.
There is a way of bypassing the ECU, but there is little point if the valve block or a bellows is faulty as you'll never make enough air to keep the system inflated. It would help if you gave an example of how the system was behaving over a number of days leading up to this failure, as that "MAY" tell a story as to what could of caused it.

Depends on the type of roads of course, but the vehicle can get out of control when on the bump stops, so to avoid any incident involving you or another road user best to have it transported.

The cost of doing that will be small compared to the (main?) dealers bill anyway...

I did 50 miles on the bump stops with the bloody caravan on the back. Very unconfortable but no damage to car, back aint been too good since tho:eek:

Just drive around the potholes and you'll be fine  I had a customer do 120 miles in Scotland like that, with 4 blokes in it.Car was fine, passengers not quite so good.....

it will be ok i had to drive back from london to nottingham on bump stops and lets just say it was very interesting to say the least
if it helps i am in the nottingham area i could do it for you or tell you what it is
no charge

Yeh, I can believe it, bloody stubborn Scotsman, passengers were probably from Wales and just as stubborn.
No,they were all west country farmers on a shooting trip, the driver who is now dead had cancer of the liver I think - made him ill for a couple of days after.
It was 120 miles to the nearest dealer I could organise to get them sorted. When I explained the situation they got the car in the workshop and sorted it straight away, and the bill was small for what they did.

I drove with a disco 2 down on the stops towed a trailer from Southtampton to home ( 165 miles) with a P38 on the trailer
Just balanced it out on the trailer ( was a slow ride home as 42mph got a bit of sway on)

Took the trialer off and then it was an odd ride
The brother in law whose disco it was damaged it the following morning on the farm road ( did something to a sensor as the ABS light came on)
