Our insurance renewal from Footman James came through today. Very reasonable at £185 but I noticed that Driving of Other Vehicles was now excluded from the policy. I gave them a call to see if we could include it at additional cost and the very uninterested call centre girl told me that Footman James (or rather their underwriters) do not include this in their policies now!

I know they were taken over by Towergate so maybe that's the reason but she was adamant that all insurers are doing the same. So are they charging us the same for a less good policy or is this just the usual crock you get from insurers?

Anyone shed any light on this?

Just checked my renewal with Admiral and we can drive other cars 3rd party as long as the car is covered by an insurance policy

Multi car
disco II
Wife's corsa
And 20 year old daughters Yaris
All fully comp this year for £930
Expected it to be over the £1000 this year

All I can say is it varies from insurer to insurer.

There are a lot of underwriters that offer Driving Other Cars benefit even on Third Party, fire & theft policies, others that offer it under no circumstances.

Occupation also has a big impact on wheter or not it is offered, eg. Motor trade occupations won't offer it for obvious reasons.

i have a motortrade policy so it doesnt apply to me, but when a friend asked to borrow my car i had to ask my insurance if he was covered. he has fully comp insurance so i assumed it would be ok. my insurance told me that they wouldnt cover him and that his insurance probably wouldnt either as the stipulation has changed on most policies to emergency use.

I got caught out with this about four years ago, the drive other cars on my fully comprehensive policy had been omitted unbeknown to me as I just renewed every year and expected it to be the same.

Cost me 200 quid and 6 points:eek:
