Drivers Door Window

Hi Guys

Everythings been sweet until this morning... got in the disco this morning, went to open the drivers door window.. and heard a clonk and nothing happened... then notice the window sliding down on its own accord ?

Its ok closed but is nudging down slowly

Have notice the motor is still working when button pressed, but me thinks the window regulator is fubar....with out taking it all apart for closer inspection

What do u guys think

it could have stripped the teeth on the motor does it slide down very far if it falls down all the way the runner on the bottom of the glass could have rusted and fallen apart hope this helps

No its doesnt fall very far

when you push the button to make it go up does it stop near the top and judder around if it does it sounds like the teeth on the mechanism that have stripped it is a common problem with the disco windows.

No press the button and all u hear is the motor trying to do something...

Window doesnt move up or down

hmmm sounds like its a door card off job and have a root around i am sure it will become evident anyway good luck sorry i couldnt be any more help

Oh well

Have to wait for the weekend to strip down and take a look..but still think its the regulator

I know this problem very well. What's happened is the window has come away from the lift mechanism. When it rains the water runs down the window into the door and as the moisture builds it rots the metal channel fitted at the bottom of the glass, then one day the window stays put and the mechanism moves down.

Pop down to your Landrover dealership and buy a new channel and rubber, very cheap I paid £15 all in/window.

The Haynes manual instructions for removal and refit of the door glass is very good and easy to follow. You will have to remove the glass from the door to fit the new channel, a tough job on your own so get help. I rolled up an old blanket to stand the glass on then fitted the rubber into the channel and a liberal use of washing up liquid will be required to ease the channel onto the glass. The job took us a couple of hours/door.

You can bet your life if one channel has gone the other will be not far behind. Don't know why but only the front ones tend to rot. The tell tale sign its on the way out is a thudding noise as the window passes the halfway down/up position, this is where the rust expanded channel bumps into the lift mechanism.
