hi everyone, just want to say thanks for all the great info on freelanders on here. ive just about managed to sort all my problems from it!

one thing left, my drivers door doesnt unlock with the central locking, i have to use the key.

if i use the key to unlock it, it doesnt activate the central locking.

if i use the key to lock it however, it does lock the rest of the doors.

do the microswitches go on the locking units in the door? is there any wire runs known that chafe etc, and could have split the wire that controls unlock?

thanks in advance for any replies.

Paul I'm no expert but seen lots of problems mentioned on here with the passenger side door. Most of which seemed to be fixed with a replacement catch. Switches and solenoids are all part of the catch unit and are not user serviceable. Freelanders are susceptible to bad earth's so you might want to check those out. You should be able to check the unlock signal from the CCU at this point. As for chafed wires check around the A pillar and door. Although I never managed to dive into the protective boot.

Hope this helps. I assume the other doors do unlock. I had a problem with my passenger side door where it would not unlock on the fob, but would unlock on the switch on the dash. Go figure? Any way picked up a pre-loved replacement for a few quid and all seems well for the time being.

usually caused by a failed solenoid in the drivers door lock, costs about £75 from a main dealer, about £50 from ebay or similar. Takes about an hour to fiddle and fettle a new one in for a beginner.

if you turn the key the drivers door unlocks, release it then turn again, all the doors will then unlock.

this mimics the 2 stage unlocking function from the fob, press once for drivers door, twice for all doors.

good luck, if you get stuck for the part number give me a shout I'll dig it out.
