Driver door lock barrel removal

Is there an easy way to get the lock barrels out of the front door handles? Don't want too disassemble the whole door to get the handles out.

Searching the net gives me all kind of tutorials for the rear door... :(
 
Hammer and screw driver or strip the door down, i was lucky as both my barrels used to come out with the key attatched and still do even after replacing the door handles with new ones but plan to fit SP series style defender doors with the series door handles instead of the defender door handles :D

Will take you no more than 15 minutes to strip the door down, there's really not much to it.
 
OK, then I failed miserably. Took me three bloody hours to get halfway there and back again. Since the rear door was a piece of cake I thought I'd overlooked something obvious...
 
I feel your pain. I bought set off four barrels and a rear door lock assembly rear one was piece of ****. Made a start on front doors but gave up too much hassle I'll live with 2 different keys :lol:

Strip door furniture off, remove door card, drill hole bang opposite lock to make it easier (or strip the metal plate bit off), undo the screw. The barrel will come out easy. Took about 10 minutes... If that

Where you getting stuck? Mines a 2001 90

Good shout on drilling the hole! I'll give it a go don't really fancy stripping it all.

I'm a bit confused about this. On the back of the lock there's a lever moving a rod. This lever is riveted to the thingy containing the lock barrel, so that's not the part you're talking about.

I only found the two screws holding the door handle from the inside (well, one screw and a pile of rust ;) )

Didn't see any other screws. Cursing myself just now for not having taken some pictures...

Exactly. Only mine was a bit different - as far as I remember one piece of metal (not that red plastic disk) and a central rivet instead of a screw...
 
Should have taken a closer look. There is the screw, and you can get at it by drilling in the right place (which didn't help me after all - rusted beyond all hope).

I just replaced the handle on mine.
Close the window and hold it in place with gaff tape. You can then take the metal panel off and the mechanism stays in place.
I tried the drilling a hole job but i had to remove the rods as well so easier for me to just take the panel off.
One thing i'm having issues with is the rod connecting the internal lock to the slider bit at the top of the door panel, the bar is on an angle and the plastic slider bit keeps twisting.....time for some minor adjustments with the old faithful hammer i think ;)
 
This is what I have fitted to my door locks looks better than manky locks that are mostly useless anyway:





If any one else would like some let me know and I will send some out in the post to the first 3 people as I have more than I need.
