driveline clunk and rear brakes not working

hi all,been out trying to investigate a clunk in my 1998 3.9 auto which appears to be only happening when braking lightly when coming to a standstillstill happens when brakes are applied hard but hardly noticable),props look ok,theres a small bit of movement in the a bar but not enough to give the sort of clunk i,m getting,but i,ve just noticed my rear discs are not far off cold even though the fronts are extremely hotis there any sort of breaking problem which could be giving me this clunk?i.e maybe rear calipers all of a sudden grabbing?what do you think

Dunno about your brakes but even the slightest play in the a-frame ball joint will give a good old clonk. It can be difficult to check for play but if you can detect even a slight movement that'll be your clonk in all likelihood.The rear brakes don't work as hard as the front so probably don't get as hot.

Could be your brakes that are clunking - your sitting pads OK? The calipers can wear and let the pads drop and then they knock about.

Anyway - as above could be the aframe ball joint, even a loose or worn shocker bush etc...

Also not much heat in the back discs is normal - the back brakes do little work unless you have a lot of weight in the boot or towing or braking very hard. A carefully driven land rover will often show signs that the back brakes are hardly even used. Took me over a year of driving my 90 to clean up the rear discs (they were off an axle that was stood up for a while) even driving along in low range with the foot on the brake to clean them up did little to the backs - fronts cleaned up in no time - yet the rear brakes on the rolling road are pulling 200kg braking force!
