Hi on my 2007 puma defender every time I change up there seems to be a *klank* noise coming from the prop shafts or drive train somewhere. Is this a normal issue and something I have to change about my driving style or a fault.
Thanks.

It could be a worn gearbox output shaft, there’s no lubrication on the splined output and it can wear out, causing loss of drive.
The failure is often preceded by a clunk when taking up drive.
There’s a modified replacement available that gives an oil feed to this part, preventing future failure.

Kinda new to defenders. Only got the current one about 3 years ago and just didn't use it that often but now ik starting to use it more. The noise has been happening for some time now and just wondered what it was.

My puma makes a bit of a klunk if I let the clutch out a bit too quick. The 6 speed box likes a slow cog swap and easing out of the clutch rather than fast changes like you would do in an ordinary ( :) ) car. Keep a check on the transmission parts (as others have posted) and keep them well maintained. Try the lazy gear change and you will probably find its ok. There will always be some backlash in the transmission its normal. And it will clunk sometimes.
