They don't know cos they've stripped it as far as they are willing to. Could be piston ring. Who knows. Hatfields aren't prepared to strip it right down because they won't repair it in any case, at this stage their recommendation and only course of action is to fit a new engine.

You could rebuild the one that's in there!
 
If you want, you could sort a rebuild with turners. When you get it back, its a simple job to put it back in. That way, the repair is done by experts and any grease monkey can fit it back in.

In its present state, you need to half your asking price...... Sorry
 
The engine has been put back together. I have no interest in fixing it. Frankly, I never want to see it again!
