Hi all
I'm at the point of frustration now, not sure how to proceed, of anyone has some tips?
I need to drill out and re-tap a thread in the back of the cylinder head, under the bulkhead where there isn't much space.
I had the bright idea of a right angle air drill, which would have been perfect if the bloomin' thing worked!
Been off the road for a month now, all because of a 2 min job! I can't take it to a garage because the manifold is off. A regular drill is too big and I really don't want to have to take the head off just for this!!

Vanes might be stuck.
Put diesel fuel or kero down it and run flat out whilst covering the exhaust with a thick rag.
If it runs good after that, get some airtool oil down it.
By down it I mean up the air inlet, you can't over flush it, get loads of fuel up it.

I ,have used a cheap right angle drill attachment and a flexy drive, cut drill bit down as much as you need, it takes 2 people one to hold the right angle attachment and one to hold and work switch on drill, might just work for you

It's had plenty of oil through it, didn't try anything more volatile though. Tried covering the exhaust too, to no avail. Spoke to the supplier who has asked for it back.
I did wonder if i was giving it enough air flow, but i don't have issues with other tools like impact drivers and i don't believe I'm getting significant pressure drop in the air line

That's a good idea cheers!! Are you offering to be the second person? :)

Oh, didn't know it was new, send it back then.

Is your compressor up to it?
Mine's a 2hp & will run an impact wrench for a few seconds until the pressure drops & the tank needs to refill. It won't run a DA air sander for more than a few seconds. Both tools are high pressure high demand.

Are you using a full bore airhose or one of the small bore curly wurly type? The latter won't deliver the quantity of air at the pressure required, OK for tyre inflation, blowguns & small sprayguns but not much else tool wise.

I'd be careful about just using the helicoil tap without drilling the appropriate hole as a broken tap stuck in the hole will need the head off. Timesert would also be a better bet.

Compressor is small but i can use an impact gun for a min or so before the pressure gets too low to be useful. Even at full pressure on the first pull of the trigger the was no torque. It's a proper hose and decent diameter.
I'll be careful trying the tap and won't get brutal, thanks

An air drill will use lots of air. So small compressors generally don't do them justice. You'll be better off using a 90° drill adapter, and using a battery drill.
