draining freelander fuel tank

Hi everyone,

I've been running my 06 freelander TD4 diesel on bio diesel, unfortunately the last batch does'nt seem to agree with the engine. Does anyone out there know the best way to drain the tank out? will a small bore tube pass down the filler neck into the tank so i can syphon it out?????

assuming your set up is the same as my 2003 TD4. i just put a large bucket under the water trap bleed screw and undid it. takes about an hour to drain 4 gallon (20l), but there is some good telly on tonight
 
Or you could access the fuel pump electrical connector, make up a small loom, disconnect the fuel pipe and extend by using a small metal tube to couple to some other hose.

Power the pump and hey presto :)

I drained a tank of stale fuel (petrol) by pumping into my old banger and using whilst I rebuilt my freelander.

YOU'VE PROBABLY ALLREADY SORTED IT NOW, BUT IF YOU... bugger, caps lock...

read drivers side wheel, look underneith the vehicle, forward half of the wheel arch (underneith the car) there should be a hole with a plastic thumb screw inside. hey presto.

of you can do what steve said, take the wheel off, pull the inner wheel arch, pull the fuel pipe off to the engine off the pump, rig up some tube and attace tot he pump

then just turn the ignition on, and, gush, fuel out of the tank at a rate of knotts. and probably all over your floor :)

Money was tight as I had just bought the 'project freelander' and parts required to fix. Also the freelander had not moved for many months.

As mine was a petrol I unclipped the fuel line to injector rail (red clip), and used a hammer to manipulate some medium pond hose (just smaller than garden hose). Once it was warm it slipped over and then cooled and made a tight seal.

I powered the pump originally by key, but the fuel pump ran for 10 secs then cut out (prob safety thing as pressure to the rail had not been sensed).

I then found an identical connector from some scrap looms. A positive and negative connection to a loose battery at the rear enabled me to start and stop the pump. My key in the ignition kept the guages powered and told me when the fuel tank was near empty.

3/4 of a freelander tank filled my Rover's tank completely and I used the fuel to get to cornwall on my camping holiday :)
