Dpf.....

I was under the impression that DPF filters were a relatively new addition, not the 20 years as mentioned.

They are what put me off getting a new(er) diesel car.

they clog up with kak, and you have to go a million miles per hour to clean them, and if they don't complete the regeneration cycle, yer stuffed !!!!

is a egr bypass the same?

DPF is in the exhaust and EGR in the inlet so it's not the same thing, if thats what you meant. I have an EGR on the daily driver but not on the D2. If they are going to start checking those too then it looks like I'll be using a bike (a push one as she wont let me have a motor one)

My 2001 D2 TD5 never had one either - neither did it have a CAT.

"Some firms offer services to remove the filter, claiming it will improve the economy. But it is an offence to drive a vehicle that has been modified this way, as it will no longer meet the emissions standards the car achieved when it was approved for sale in the UK."

This is just complete and utter horse crap! There are general emission standards anyway which all vehicles have to pass - so what if the car no longer acts like it did out of the factory, as long as the general emissions are met then that's the way it should be.

Sometimes I just wish planet Earth would decide to have half a dozen volcanos erupt simultaneously - WTF would the tree huggers do about that amount of pollution??? ;)

What do DPFs look like from the outside? I see a market for DPF replica bits of exhaust which look exactly like a real one....from the outside :)

Regarding the scored brake discs OK but non illuminated dash not OK... you do realise it's very important for the driver to know exactly what speed they are doing when their brakes don't work.... :p :p

Big fat bunch of eco-political 5H1T3 :(

...were's me meds gone? May have forgotten to take them...

DPFs look exactly like silencers which is what my other car has in place of the DPF. I had a local garage replace 2 exhaust sections (part of a DPF removal kit) on my other car (not a Land Rover - daren't say what it is on this forum going on past history of lambasting ;)), and took the car to the same place for MOT in summer. The owner reminded the tester it was the car without the DPF, expecting it to fail the emissions, but seemed well cheesed off when it passed with flying colours. Guess I won't be going there again for my MOT as they will fail it instantly - will have to find another testing station that can be convinced that what I have is an aftermarket DPF. ;)

They are such a pita that I'm thinking of buying petrol cars from now on, if it's older than about 2006 when DPFs started to be fitted as standard
