Double mot

Series just passed its mot today, hooray. When I got there it was being tested again by a man from the ministry. Think this is to check the standards of the garage rather than the vehicle though.

He was unamused when I asked whether it meant that it didnt need an mot for 2 years now as it passed two tests. Perhaps its not first first time he's heard that.

We do spot checks on garages just to make sure they are doing the job right which most of the time they are!!

I think that's a fair question... were they willing to pay you for the extra time it took out of your day? If i took my Series in at lunch time from work for a MOT and it took 2 hours instead of 1 hour my boss wouldn't have been too happy...

Did the bloke ask for consent? I would be most annoyed if someone was taking up my time!

No but I was too busy ****ting myself to be annoyed. I was worried it was going to turn into a fine tooth comb identity check.

You freely admit you are one of the MOT/Vosa Gestapo cock noshers checking if MOT stations are doing their job right, well I'll tell you if you ever choose my vehicle as a test check and rev it's ####ing engine to the max yet again after it's first check, I will drop you or one of your gestapo colleagues to the ground.

I've never had experience of them, but if they clamp down on the dodgy garages out there then fair enough imo. :hippie:

You present your vehicle for an MOT, not TWO, these snooping bastards should ask the owner of the vehicle for permission to check it again.

That isn't practical.

The point is to catch the garages out. So the dodgy garages would either get the customers to say no (if they are both being dodgy) or vosa would have to wait around all day to get in contact with the person... who could then say no.

By that point the garage is informed they are being watched and clean up their act for a short time.

I can't see any other way for them to do it.

Only I they're present, they can't do a vehicle your testing at the time, it's got to be one you tested earlier in the day to get a fair representation. We've had a few spot checks, there may be slight differences in opinion as at the end if the day most things are at the testers disgression but we've always passed straight through, but my god are the inspectors humourless sods hahaha

They have absolutely no right to subject your vehicle to yet another test, it is your vehicle and you presented it for ONE MOT, not two, how about if you collected your vehicle from the test station and find it had done a hundred miles or so, just to make sure it was road worthy, would you accept that ?????

Oh grow up! Is part of the test procedure that keeps MOT stations up to scratch, in the same way as the MOT helps to keep unsafe vehicles off our roads.
As for humourless sods...I find their sense of humour quite droll.... but then...they are usually investigating a fatal accident when I see them!

I'm not really sure where you are coming from. You implying that an mot test damages your vehicle? or that you've lost some time?

At the end of the day the MOT is there to protect you and people around you, if there's something wrong with my vehicle that makes it dangerous I want to know and I'd also like for the rest of the vehicles on the road to be of the same good condition. These spot checks make sure the testers are up to date, legal and are doing there job properly, if your vehicle is sound you have nothing to worry about, if its not you should be fixing it, not driving around in a death trap, think to yourself, would you let your daughter drive a it if it fails mot ?

I didn't think of it that seriously - just thought two mot passes in one day should at least get a gold star or a tee shirt.

Maybe you could suggest an alternative way of testing the testers Rob?

wish the fooker's had double tested my 110 when the previous owner put it in for an MOT (if it ever went near a tester) cos the foking thing would have been seized an prohibited from been driven on the road until it had a noo chassis..
