Afternoon one and all.

Im looking for some new door frames for Noel, my s3 LWB stn wagon.

Ive found galv door tops. Excellent.
Ive found bottom door repair sections. Ok.
Ive found complete replacement bottom doors inc skins. Not needed.

What im really after is a complete lower galvanized frame without the skin.
Does anybody sell just the frame?

The skins I have are in an ok condition and original, so I would like to keep them, but the frames are rotten.
Am I just being daft in wanting to keep the original skins?
Should I just buy the complete door (x4) ?

Hellllllllllllllllllp !

Cheers, Shirl.

I would imagine unfolding the 40 year old skins and then folding them onto the new frame will not end well.

Are the panels actually in good enough condition to re-use? the bottom seem on mine has corroded through in a couple of places along the bend so I am looking for complete doors with galv frame. @Wildefalcon suggestion is a good one as then if your old ones do split coming apart you already have replacements fitted. Just make sure you remove the old ones first, before the new ones!

You need to anneal the Ali door skin along its folded edge, then you could unfold the door skins off the frame. You'd need to apply heat get the Ali red hot then quench. I need to do same

That's not how to anneal aluminium. Heat until soap browns or a rubbed piece of wood leaves a mark. Do not quench - that's tempering and will stiffen the metal, just what you don't want.

If you do reskin the doors, make sure to paint the metal frames thoroughly before replacing the skins, and maybe put some puttty or similar in between the skin and the frame. That prevents the dissimilar metal corrosion that is a problem on Land Rovers.

But I would just buy the doors.

The door frames rust for a pass time, so if you galvanise the steel door and window frames before refitting the Ali skins, this will stops any electrolytic corrosion.

For the price of new door bottoms I bought these from Paintman https://www.paintmanpanels.co.uk/product-category/series-3/series-3-door-bottoms/ If worrying about future corrosion just prep' really well using a high quality zinc primer and three coats of chosen paint colour. For the frames I first drilled drain holes and spray loaded all sections with a good few coats of Dinitrol. Two years in they still look as new.
