Over the weekend, I removed one of the door tops from my running series 3 as it needs replacing and this is soon to be done.

However, the door top which I have removed still has a bit of life left in it yet, and I would like to put it on my other series 3 so that I can finally secure it better than a sheet of tarpaulin.

There is one problem. The only way I could remove the door top was by grinding through the studs holding it on. This means that there is now half a stud stuck in the series 3 door top, and no way of getting it out.

I did some searching and it seems that these studs are actually welded in place and can't be removed from the Series 3 door tops. The best suggestion I have come across is to drill out the stud, and then tap a 11/16 thread for a defender door top stud.

Does anyone have any ideas which may be better?

Thanks

If it was rusted enough that it needed cutting off to remove it there cant be much life left in it! They are cheap enough I would just get a replacement, or if you are only using because it is free I would go with the above and weld an extension piece on to replace the bit cut off rather than trying to replace the whole stud.

The door top itself is in an OK condition, a bit of rust but not too much. The only reason I cut it off was because I couldn't get the nut off the stud! Sounds like a good plan, will weld a new stud on the end.
