Hi All,

I've had a look re the above but just wanted to clarify a couple of points.

My door release cable has snapped at the inside door handle end so I've ordered a new one from Island 4x4. I've removed the door card and can see where the other end of the cable fits to the latch. So.....

Question 1: Do I have to remove the latch from the door to refit the new release cable?

Question 2: How do you fit the other end to the door handle? It's really tight in there and I have big, fat fingers.

Thanks for any advice (layman's preferably)
Cheers

Did mine last week, a right pain in the ......... I didn't remove the latch, lucky maybe. Anyway, I hope the attached picture helps.

Firstly, lever the nylon clip off the right angled hook at the door handle end of the cable, the cable should then unclip and you should be able to pull the outer cable from the handle frame.

AT the other end of the cable there is a double right angle hook that goes through a hole in a nylon catch (for want of a better word) and this is a bastard of a thing, but it can be done. Mine was snapped at this point. I managed to lever it out with a long flat blade screw driver. The outer cable is fairly easy to remove it is just slotted into a steel slot! Levers out towards the inside of the car. When you come to replace the cable, start at the latch end with the inner cable. I used a pair of needle nose pliers (and a bit of string to hold the nylon catch up slightly) while I maneuvered the double right angled b****st through the hole. The rest is pretty straight forward.

Good luck with it
Bill

Thanks for that Bill,

I notice on the diagram that there isn't a comment for the removal/refit of the double right angled b****rd!!

My cable has snapped at the other end to yours just leaving the right angled metal piece. As the light was bad, I've removed the handle housing , brought it indoors and I've noticed a little circlip? holding the piece in place so that should be easy enough to refit.

I'll get on it when Island deliver
Thanks again
Tim

Hi Tim, I'm not sure there is a right way to do the b****sd. The double angled hook is quite difficult to get in and then into position as there is not much room to work. I found it best to open the window and shine torch down onto the latch so you can see how the cable is fitted. Getting the double angle hook out was effected by using a large, long flat blade screw driver going in from the top with the window open.

I did mine but i was replacing the door latch, so i had it "lose"...

I believe that releasing the door latch will help.

What i did was placing the latch in position with the screws partly inserted and connect everything first... not easy but doable... think "twist and turn" and get an extra pair of hand (i didn´t)

Well,

What a b*****d of a job that was!!

Moreirinha - you were right, it does help to loosen the latch unit itself.
Bill - The double angled hook on the original cable seemed to be "thicker" than the new one. What this meant was getting the old one out was a right chore but the new one slotted in easily.

Anyway, after doing the hard bit, I then went and broke the little plastic holder that keeps the single angled hook (at the other end of the cable) in the remote handle. Searching previous posts, I noticed that this part isn't available alone - I would need to buy a complete new remote handle. I also noticed that IrishRover had a spare that he offered in exchange for a forum donation. Do you still have it Irish and is the deal still the same?:)

If not, does anyone else have one? Or has anyone effected a "workable bodge"?

:welcome2:
Hi Tim...How's things ???

I feel sure that I have one. Send a PM with your address details and I'll com back to you shortly to confirm.:)

that sounds fun i have to do mine tomorrow along with my front prop great thanks for the info though

I took the three bolts out of the latch and twisted it slightly to be able to remove the double right angled b*****d. I didn't disconnect anything else so was careful when twisting latch. New cable end seemed to go in much more easily than old one came out. Oh, and be careful when removing plastic clip on the handle end!!

Cheers
