Can anyone tell me how to solve the problem of pulling the door handle, and having the lock engage so the door won't open?

You can actually see the lock button move down slightly when you pull the door handle either from inside or out. You have to hold the lock button up while you pull the handle to open it.

I had the door card off but could see no reason why it should be doing this, as there appeared (by feeling as it's very difficult to see inside the door) to be no snagging in the mechanism at all.

if you find out let me know... mine only does it on one door and if I pull the lock up by hand before i try and open it will open fine.. if i don't it locks as soon as I try... very irritating...

The last time I had the door card off I WD'd all the pivot points and joints etc, which seemed to solve the problem for about a week or so, but it's back again. As you say, very irritating.

Age old Disco problem, happens to them all unfortunatly - there is a little spring in the locks that breaks and causes this. Good new's they can be bought, they are a rip off for what they are but better than £50 a lock.

Landrover Discovery Door Lock Repair Spring 5 door Set on eBay, also, Land Rover, Car Parts, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 24-Apr-09 07:48:59 BST)

It's worth getting them all, once it starts on the drivers door the others soon follow. It's a massive pain in the neck, I have this problem on 4 of the doors at the moment inlcuding the back door.

One day I will fit these springs to mine!

as it's a rear door I think I'll wait at that price.. and in the meantime look out for the right sort of spring in every hardware shop I go in... looks like they aren't anything special and I bet if it didn't say it was for the landrover they would be tuppence each...

Good luck on waiting but I think you will end up getting them from the E.Bay link. I bought a set three years ago when two of mine started acting up, since then I have fitted them to all 5 doors.

Never seen 'em in any shop, I don't think they're available elsewhere ... and they're handed so you have to fit the right one in the right place, the right way up and the right way round.

The full pack, if it's the one with instructions is worth it for the details alone .. ;)

Can't find mine now or I'd scan 'em in for you ...

And it only works out at three quid a door.

Your not wrong there - con for some little penny torsion springs - I have some special wire here and I am going to make some up - if they work well I will let you know and stick them on ebay for a penny each - just to wind up the rip off guy.

Yes they are handed but with a pair of formers you can put the bends into ordinary stock ones yourself. It will be a common part, probably found in minis, bedford trucks, austins, rovers... the list goes on.

Just out of interest I have just phoned my local LR main dealers parts dept. They can only supply the latch, but pointed me in the direction of Ebay for the above springs.

At £15 for a set for all five doors, I agree that they are steep for what they are, but if you work it out for how much they cost for each time you will open that door, they start to look not as bad.

I got a full set off ebay for about 15 quid, i'm sure you could get them off a metro or maestro etc, but they might be on Knackered as well. Fitting them is a pain in the arse, but well worth it.

just ordered a full set peeps'i mean come on £15 for all five doors isnt that bad considering what the main stealers want to sell you, when they arive i'll put a copy of the destruction book on here for those that want it.:)

It's not too bad a job, but it is really fiddly. You need to take out the latch, so it's a case of remembering where everything goes. The front door is a pain, you have to remove the window frame, wing mirror etc.
