For the last few months we noticed that sometimes the passenger door lock does not open..... now we have the same with the drivers side which either sticks or will open on the 2nd press of the door button. Any pointers.

Yes, it needs new door lock assemblies in the failing doors.
It's best to do them before they stop working altogether, as once the final motor (there are 2 in each lock) fails, the door locks shut, and is very difficult to open again.

Does it depend on whether the knob on the door trim by the window pops up fully or not?

I have a feeling the problem with my intermittent failing to unlock is with the linkages rather than the motor/actuator. As I say, its been randomly not unlocking for many years, the knob always pops up but the door wont open. If you give the door a push it will then often open without having pressed the fob buttons. It doesn't appear to have got worse or better over that time.
