Hello,
i have a 90 with , i think td5 doors on it. They are steel ones. The door lock barrel fell out when taking the key out. On the end of the barrel was the end of i assume the door locking mechanism, its the part with the pin in it to release the barrel. I thought this hould be attached to the door mechanism. Its looks like it snapped off. Are the door mechanisms different to the earlier ones? Are the locks and barrels interchangeable ? 300 tdi to td5?

At the end of the barrel (on all the ones I've worked on, but I'm not rich enough tohave a TD5!,) there are two flats, upon which is mounted the cam fro lifting the lock/unlock mechanism.
The cam part is held in place with an M4 setscrew and a shakeproof washer.
It could be that the screw has either sheared (unlikely) or has become unfastened and dropped out.
Check for the mising bits first.
It sounds as though someone has changed the lock barrel at some time and forgotten how important the shakeproof washer actually is.

Earlier models had padlocks on the hasp or barrel latch. The early model was an lock and lever unit complete but the barrel could be removed by pushing a pin down to release and replace with a new set.

Thanks for the reply. it does look as though the piece with the plunger pin on it has sheared off from the door handle mechanism, this was still attached to the barrell. Are these bits with a door lock handle ? The barrel is quite long so i thinks its def a td5 one. Is there any difference between the door handles on a 300 tdi and a td5?

Be very careful which locks you get! My lad has 2001 TD5 and his lock barrels are the short type that have a brass pin on the end, like these -

There are also longer ones like these -

They are not interchangeable, I found this out with the door in bits.... Can't remember the Britpart part number, but I have a pair of brand new long barrels with keys if you want them.
