I arranged for Autoglass to come and replace my Disco windscreen they took my £75 pound insurance excess and said they would do the job yesterday,an hour later the local Autoglass centre rang me and said they did not have the trim to do the job and he had checked nationally and non were available possibly for weeks or months. So I am £75 pound down with MOT due in a few days, looks like holiday in Devon cancelled.

is that the seal you mean on a 300 tdi by any chance , if so thats a load of bollocks you dont need a new one had mine done last year no seal required , its because there a bunch of tossers and dont know what there doing

Windscreen is not an MOT requirement. Take it out, remove the wipers and its 3 things less to test. (Washers being the other)

Weather is nice enough to go get it mot'd.

If it was my Hotchkiss Jeep or my old VW Iltis I would just fold the windscreen down but this big fangled thing does not have that option. That reminds me when I had my VW Iltis I cracked a wind screen and located one the same day and fitted it 2 days later. Progress?

I used autoglass a few times in the past very expensive, i wasnt fully comp on a ford focus and was quoted £450 for a rear window after some tit decided to throw a vacum cleaner through it, and had auto windscreens do it for £300

@OP, where are you based? Can Autoglass not refund you the excess???

Windscreen is an MOT requirement as well as the washers and wipers.

Sorry mate, i'm not wanting to get into an arguement with ya....you bring a car to me for an MOT without a screen, i'll just laugh at you.

This link is to a site a lot of MOT testers use.

Its a horizontal crack just below the mirror about a foot long on the drivers side, I am in Cheshire. I am complaining to my insurer as they say I have to use autoglass or I have to pay an additional excess. So if I go elseware I will have to fight to get my credit card reimbursed and I bet they have claimed off my insurer so that will be further grief.

And if its a Visa just do a chargeback

Just an update on this ,still no screen from Autoglass .I have even suggested to them that they can replace the windscreen and I will find the trim.

I have given up with autoglass and I booked with another outfit they came round and said we have no trims and drove off. I may start looking into doing this job myself.

what they mean by the trim is the external plastic strip that is either side of the screen....when they take these off 9 /10 the clips break on them rendering them useless
Had my screen replaced by autoglass had to call them back due to leak above rear view mirror due to first guy starting sealant off at top instead of the bottom so there was a bad join at the top causing the leak.
A week later water was peeing in at both corners...took it back and they removed it again and found it was fitted correctly but further to that they found to tiny cracks in each corner of the wind screen frame just below the water gutter.
Thinking I was going to get stung for a bill for wasting their time they just filled the cracks, refitted screen and said it was not a problem and bid me good day.
Best £75 I ever paid.

Make sure you keep your reciept for £75.00-After I had mine done and paid for with Autoglass,18 mnths later ,I get and unpaid 7 day demand threatening court action for the £75.00,as I paid by credit card, managed to get a copy statement to shut them up-useless outfit

You do need a new top trim / finisher when you replace a TD5 screen as it bends when removed, I would strongly suggest you dont get a screen done without a new one.
