Can anyone please tell me when they made the changes to the bmw diesel and what there are ? I have bought a tuning chip off ebay and think it must be for a different model as I dont seem to be able to find the plug it is supposed to connect to.

whats the plug look like?? pics would be good. the plug thats on my chip is plugged in under the intake manifold towards the front of the engine. its a round plug.

Hi Wills. The plug on the tuning box I have got is oblong. About 40mm long by 15mm wide With 4 flat pins inside. The rangerover it came off had a plug by the injection pump. I cant find anything like it anywhere on mine. I have attached some photos of the box and the rangerover that it came off that were emailed to me by seller.

hmmm, interesting. not sure on that one then....

The only thing i can say is that the pictures you have sent in show a vehicle that has EGR, so, whether that changes anything I dont know as my P38 doesnt have that.

i went outside earlier and took this pic below, it shows how mine is connected. the box plugs inline with the connector for the injection pump as you can see...

Thanks for that wills. What do you mean by egr ? I take it your box has 2 plugs one in and one out ? Is a box worth fitting ? They sound to good to be true.

EGR = Exhaust Gas Recirculation.

Yes, my box has one cable that fits inline with the injector pump cable. What you can see in the photo I put up before is the other end of the plug, should of made that a little clearer, sorry.

I also have another part to my box and thats fitted inline with a pipe that goes to the fuel filter bracket. Im not sure what exactly its for, whether its vacuum or air pressure I dont know, never looked into it. Look at the additional pics below to see...

Pic shows box mounted on passenger side wheel arch.

this pic shows where the box T's into the vacuum/pressure(??) line...

Hi Wills. Is the EGR vavle the round thing with the blue and black pipe on it ? My range rover has one of those on it. Im starting to think there is part of the loom missing with the box i have bought ! Where did you get your box from and is it any good ? Here is a photo of my engine anything like yours ?

My engine looks like this (ignore the red arrow)...

hose3.jpg

basically the same but without EGR.

my box was with the vehicle when I bought it. im not sure what make it is, as you can see all it says on it is PowerLink. However, I think I remember seeing one on eBay once that looked exactly the same but it was manufactured by PSI and was called a Powerbox. Either way Im not sure im afraid.

As for whether it makes a difference, well, its like night and day. When searching for the right P38 for me I test drove a non chipped DSE and it was slow and very lethargic and made pulling out of junctions scary to say the least. With the box I have you notice the difference straight away when pulling out etc, plus, if you put your foot to the floor it will really pull and keep pulling hard - obviously I dont drive like this constantly but its nice to know the power is there should you need it. Also, on a run down to Oxford today (50ish miles) I averaged 32.8 MPG, that itself is the reason I love my chip. So yes, I would say it does make a difference.

Thanks again Wills. The other difference i can see between our engines is that you dont seem to have an air flow meter. Im getting confused now !

Wills... i know this is an old thread but see the powerlink box u have fitted..ive one in mines (1996)...is it correct to say that one of the hoses connect to a small black unit to side of the fuel filter??

Yes (To MAP sensor) and the other one under the manifold.
