Ive put in a new brake light switch in to hopefully get rid of the HDC warning light , it hasnt changed anything , does this need time to reset or is it a case of it going off or not going off ?

There's 2 sets of contacts in the brake switch. A normally open (NO) set and a normally closed (NC) set. The ABS ECU uses both sets of contacts as a double check for correct switch operation. The brake lights only use the NO contacts. The ABS ECU uses both NO and NC contacts.
There's no bedding in or resetting needed as the switch works or it doesn't.

Ive turned it to the right so its now pointing to 2 oclock , im assuming this is correct as its now tight in the frame , im assuming this is correct ?

Assuming you have the updated switch with new loom I had exactly the same problem as you.

Check the switch is properly fitted, any movement means it is not. There are two blue plastic contacts on the top of the switch where it fits to the car, I can only assume that these need to be clicked in to place before the switch works, this can only happen if the switch is fitted correctly. Mine was a bitch to fit as it was so tight but once I got it fitted correctly the brake lights worked straight away.
