the Power steering pump on p38 with the BMW engine is the same as from a BMW diesel car with the same engine?

Here's me asking a question which was covered but not answered in a very old thread... but does anybody know if BMW part number 32411138124 is a useable substitute for our ERR4911?
It's ZF part number 7681955268 and goes into the E36 BMW 325TD/S, although interestingly this particular listing doesn't mention the E39 525TD/S or the E38 725TDS, which also use the same BMW M51 engine.
Going by the pics on the internet, they sure LOOK the same and, emboldened by my recent success in installing a BMW crankshaft damper in my P38 DSE and suffering from acute Landroverpartprice-ophobia during these straitened times, I'm wondering if I might repeat my success by using a BMW part instead of the Land Rover one (of which they don't have one in stock anyway).
Anybody?

Might be worth giving customer services at Eurocarparts a ring. It is a bit of pot luck who you get but they've been very helpful with me in the past.

Ok..... I dimly remember once being told by my former mechanic that the power steering pump is rebuildable with a ZF rebuild kit which comes with seals that look like an obese TIE Fighter (didn't give me an actual part number but that description stuck). In fact I remember buying a kit and having him rebuild mine- which he did..... so then I went looking for it and I found it. It's BMW part number 32411135880 and I know it'll go because that's what I have in my PAS pump right now, so I checked ebay and not only did I find it, I found the exact same item from the exact same seller I bought from before, at least ebay said I'd bought the item before and here's the listing.
The other link is to a "how to" page which gives you the procedure. I've bought one and I'll post how it goes on here.

Weird that they'd have 3 different parts for 3 cars using the same engine and being built around the same time. It's not a different pump rating for a heavier car, either because it looks like they've installed the 3 series one in our DSEs.
Either way, there's a reason nobody has asked me to be CEO of their carmaker company and I guess this is it. I'll post on here it if fits. I'm going to try and find a used or refurbished BMW one to install on the car while I refurbish the one that's going to be taken off. M51 engine'd BMWs were never imported in to Malaysia in any quantity and Land Rover only ever imported 40 DSEs so cars that run these engines, and parts suppliers who will stock their parts, are as rare as hens' teeth. If I can save my rattling PAS pump from the recycle bin, I'll have a go.
Yeah it is strange as BMW are one manufacturer that do tend to re use the same parts across several models

Some things from an m51 525 fit - I had a starter motor they are same unit just half the price of LR. Alternators also.
Our PS unit is a ZF so could well be compatible.

Oooo! That's great news on the starter motor and the alternator. I'll make a note of that!
So it's 3 series for the PAS pump and 5 series for the starter motor and alternator, huh? Well.... we'll know about the PAS pump as soon as I find one.

The alternator or the starter? Starter motor is Bosch and the petrol one doesn't fit the manual box variant. Cannot remember what the alternator is but mine was for BMW not Land Rover. Same unit.

Nope..... the PAS pump off our DSEs LOOK like the one off the 325TD/S. The ones off the 525TD/S and 725TD/S look completely different. IF any of the BMW M51 PAS pumps will fit our DSEs, it'll be the E36 one.
Just trying to roll a good thing here- if the alternator and starter motor will fit (and if I can find out if there's a specific model M51 engine'd BMW that will) then I for one am golden.

Erm..... well, just because they LOOK the same doesn't mean they'll fit the same- or work the same. I think the starter has a better chance of being compatible because it bolts onto the engine body and engages the flywheel directly and it'll make no sense for BMW to have different shaped, or sized, or rated, starters for the same engine, even less than using 3 different PAS pumps for cars using the same engine.
For the alternator to be different is much easier though. Belt routing might differ from installation to installation, as may the location of the alternator due to the placement of the other engine ancillaries in different installations. Different installations might demand different ratings and it's not hard to imagine our DSEs demanding more juice from the alternator to power all the electronics as compared to a relatively simple E36.
Pics will help, I think, but as with my PAS pump experiment, we won't know for sure until someone actually goes out and does it.
