get cctv fitted to front of house n sensor lights.

also handy lil thing for a tenner. those personal alarms with a cord.fit it inside and the decibels are unreal and designed to cause pain.

I have, sensor lights budy.god idea about cctv.would you go covert camera .or on show camera...as deterant but if they see it.it will be huds up time.

what i did on the front of me mums was install an on show cctv camera with sound recording activated by the same 2 motion sensors that ran the 2 500watt halogen lamps right next to the camera this was all stuffed under the soffits on the corner of the house viewing the entire drive

when the lights came on you couldnt see the camera nor was it too noticeable during daylight this worked a treat when i cought the bastids who nicked me brothers stereo out of his xr3i it was the little fukker down the street

once word got out about the house being camerad up nobody ever took anything from anyone on that street again

a mate who lives in the countryside had a 3' post sunk in concrete,
with a very small, thick ring on top, then a heavy chain through another ring bolted/welded to rear of defender, when locked up, it cant be seen,
also has switch to isolate electrics, after 2 lr's stolen, they have tried twice,
no success, i know this won't suit everybody, if you can it, might stop your motor going walkies.

Our old series 3 had an isolation switch, mind you I knocked it on once when driving down a 'challenging' road, took me ages to work out what happened.

Back in the 1960-70s it was felt that getting the reg numbers etched on all the glass would deter ringers as it was too expensive to replace it but I suppose Landys are broken up more than wrung. Maybe if we could invent a way of stamping the reg numbers on all panels.

There's a kit being offered through LRO mag (was in their Dec'11 edition) that could do this type of job. £35.25 posted worldwide and can be ordered from Retainagroup on +44 (0) 1233 333000. From memory the contents of the pack ordered seperately are around £45'ish

Landywatch got a bit involved with the manufacturers from the outset and then LRO stepped in and took it on. Basically it's glass etching and also some UV self etching stickers for key body panels and some UV stencils for plastic parts.

Here's a bit more info....(piccy is of a sample pack I was sent when we were getting involved through Landywatch)

Contents as follows (all stencils/stickers have the consistent unique code that would be linked to your vehicle)

10 x glass stencils + etching fluid + instructions
18 x UV self etch ultra destruct body panel labels + instructions
7 x UV ultra destruct stencils and UV marking fluid + instructions
2 x Window warning stickers.
1 x Vehicle registration form.
1 x Credit card sized plastic card for recording your unique code.

Basically, you mark the truck and then register it against the unique code. All the markings have a phone number that anyone buying a truck or panels from the truck, can then call, quote the code and verify if the vehicle is logged as stolen. On the body panels, you'd need to use UV light to see the markings if the stickers themselves are removed.

As an alternative, some folk use Smart Water or Select DNA

I guess all of these types of marking kits are VERY mild deterrents if warning stickers are put on the truck. In terms of the UV marking, it does rely on a buyer checking the part with a UV light in advance of course. How many people actually do that ? It's not perfect by an means but it's another element that may just help to put more doubt in the mind of the thieving scrotes:)

As a low-tech alternative, buy a number/letter punch set and stamp key parts, with perhaps the last 7 digits of the VIN ?
