Do we need to freeze in winter?

rifht crossed wires here guys i was talking about my heated bike jacket.

the seats on the other hand apparently have a thermo stat in the base of the seat lots of write ups on here how to fix them. you can at the same time upgrade the stat to give a warmer seat. which is my plan shortly when they the new stats arrive from china. my seats are dead iv traced it to duff heating elements in the seat the seat back is fine.

No idea where or how to check this. My heated seats are factory fitted

Not sure where yours will be. But mine is on the front of the engine in a horse shoe shaped cast pipe. Undo the 2 10mm bolts holding it on and see if there is one in there. Or if you can remove the bleed cap off the top and look in. Thermo looks like a spinning top.

Ok, cool. I need the seats to work, then the windscreen and next the parking sensors! Oh, also the cd shuttle and the leaking roof, plus duff RHS height sensor!!

You can't have the heated seats any hotter than they are designed to be, the reason for the thermostat is for safety.

If yours are no hot then u do have a problem. :(

oh i disagree and here is the excellent post to prove it

as its been upgraded before with no ill effects cept a warm arssssssse  the chances are the problem is just due to the common breaks in the heating wire but while im in there no harm in upgrading the stat to

In your link the OP States "Ive no idea what the standard heated seats feal like"
So now with his "uprated" thermostat he now has hot seats, there's no mention of comparison tests regarding temperature pre and post to the upgrade.

My D1 seats get to the same temperature as the day I took delivery from the LR dealer back in 1997... Hot! :) much same as another modern four seater car I own which all four seats are heated.

Thermostat is a #### to do but could be the problem if its stuck open. Its the white plastic tpiece thingy looks like a plan view of a fork in the road with 3 coolant hoses plumbed into it

i will in the interest of experiment fix the seats and test them with the standard thermostat then measure the heat o/p then replace with the uprated ones and do the same for a comparrison:p

I have an electric fan 240 v on a timer in there for frosty mornings, no scraping in the morning and lovely and warm

D1 heated seats?
Is this standard or not? I've wondered why there are wires coming out the center consol. How would i know if they are fitted?
