Gentlemen

I need more advice.

Following the general opinion that my chassis on my 1988 90 is knackered (see previous post) i have now ordered a new galv chassis. I need to remove the engine and gearbox so that I can continue stripping the old chassis prior to taking delivery of the new one as I do not have a lot of room.

Could anyone tell me if I can remove the engine and gearbox together or do i need to split them? If I need to split them are there any things that i need to be careful of? Also what are the best points to fasten the engine hoist to?:confused:

pull the engine, you will need to spread the chassis to pop the transmission cross member (porta pack).
or you may find it easier to remove body and then remove engine and transmission.

I'd split the transfer box off the gearbox as it is one hell of a lump unless you have lifting gear (engine crane)

Yes, if you have an engine crane.. Forgot about that! Also, considder doing your clutch maybe while it is all out??

Thanks gents

Sorry for the lack of response the computer said no!!

I have an engine crane so I think I will take it out in one I just wasnt sure if this was the correct way or if it would damage anything. Would you replace the engine mounts at the same time?

Thanks gents

This is how it went.
Engine crane onto the lifting point on the engine using a d link then lifted steady away until the engine mounts came free.
Note do not forget the earth strap to the chassis like I did
The engine and gearbox are perfectly balanced making it very easy to wheel the chassis from under the engine and then wheel the engine crane to where you are going to put the engine down.
An easy job with the engine and gearbox attached but I imagine not as simple if removing just the engine.
