do i have a 200tdi or a 19jtd engine

Hi, im new to land rovers, ive got myself a defender 90 and was told in the advert and in person thats its a 200tdi, but after looking at the posts on here and doing a google search im rather confused, some pictures show my engine and say its a 200tdi then the next picture says it a td.

What ever engine it is, its been 'messed with' as it now has an electric fan, the turbo pipes arent original and the bottom coolant hose has a red adparter for the temp sensor.

Please could you help.

It's a 200 TDI, originally from a Disco.

The turbo is up the top on a defender engine and the timing case slopes down towards the steering box .

Turbo is in a different position.

Sorry you also do have temp sensor it's the green wite on top of stat housing , the red thingy in your hose is to activate the electric fan !! Sometimes these are also adjustable as regards the temp settings .

Thanks for all your help, that put my mind at rest.

As for the rad temp sensor I could dine with adjusting it as the temp gauge on the dash always sits at the edge of the white part.

Now it know what engine I can find out how to make it faster

sorry to dissapoint ya chap but if fast is what you want youve bought the wrong motor

I know, but I'll look in to playing with the fuel pump. Plus I don't want speed, that would just be scary lol I'm want to see if I can get some more torque from the old girl.

That looks quite neatly fitted compared to some you see!
As for power std they are as flat as a fart, tweaked up they are better but still no ball of fire, if you tweak them so they drive pretty damn good, the whole road behind you will be covered in black smoke!
