Just wondering about the electronic controls on the 300 TDI engine.

Are there any?

If so can they be replaced by bypassed; I really don't want my engine to be at the whims of an ecu :)

Some 300tdi Defenders have an ecu to control the EGR valve - its nothing to worry about and it can be removed if you wish.
Its 300 Disco's with autobox made from 96 on that had a Bosch fly by wire controlled injector pump.Export cars,I think it was Swiss and Jap models had it a year earlier.

yes your right its called DDS as ive just found out on my 97 disco

Thanks for this lads.

If the EGR valve chip/ecu was ripped out or destroyed it wouldn't cause any problems then?

Nope - There isn't much to it really, it's all disconnected on my disco and it's non existant in my 90.
