Was mooching around the club and picked up plenty of steel tubing, apprx 50mm width and with a high stress load as it's used to hang lighting and various ancillaries from in the roof areas.

After some thinking and abit more practice with the welder I'm considering making some rocksliders/steps for the sides of me landy, however i'm not sure on how to attach them.

Do normal rock sliders attach to the chassis itself and/or how are they fixed?

I wanted to mount a plate with a short bar protruding and have that permanently fixed to the chassis, bolted or otherwise, and have the bar that will go front to back then attach to that but be removable if needed ( i picked up some heavy duty sleeves anorl )

My only concern is attaching to the chassis, it is after all a box section and by mounting the whole thing onto the chassis would this not produce a stress point if it took a whack? The chances of me being in a position causing this kind of force is nigh on impossible, but i wouldn't want to damage it based on not understanding.

I found this anorl:

defender 90 rock sliders - MIG Welding Forum

and this, although that is some nice welding and it seems the guy doing it works with metal for a living ;)

Instead of the box section i would use the tubing and have it protruding out of the vehicle by about 100mm to provide a step, abit like this:

i know it's not a Landy, but that's the idea

I'll have a good look underneath over the weekend to work out what bolts where.

The first ones look fine, have to be as a replacement for your sills..The second ones i'm not so sure about, that leading edge would easily catch on something and rip the bloody lot off i'd have thought...need to get that sorted..

Valid point mate, i wouldn't have them sticking out that far, much closer to the bodywork but far enough to make a step so to speak.

The ends would preferably be turned in anorl to reduce the rick of them snagging owt.

I started making a pair for the 90 but never got round to finishing em :( this is how I rounded tthe bottom of the slider (it's upside down in the pic. just left a long flap on the bottom and bent it to foillow the curve. tacking it as I went.
