DIY paint job?

My bros got some on his camera so il try nd get them off him nxt time i see him. You dont want the aerosols unless your doin a very small area. Go to paint and finishes-paint-combicolour. Then just choose your colour, the orange i got is called RAL2000 i think.

Is it required to sand back to almost bare metal or just quick prep to make a surface which is usable?

Need to get my photoshop (lack of) skills on the go and come up with some graphics for it.

If yer go down the spray route buy a respirator 3m make em and ya can get em outa b and q one likes this is good 3M 3M Vapour and Particulate Respirator | | Half Masks and Full Masks | Respiratory Protection | Personal Protective PPE | Protec Direct

Just to be safe coz paint don't do ya lungs much good especially etch primer which gives off cyanide amongst other things and 2 pack acryllic aint too good for ya either.

Lol, yh im goin for the orange and black look too, at the end of the day if i dont like it i can always repaint it as its so fookin easy.

You need to make sure the surface is solid, by that i mean it isnt flaking or peeling off. I just sanded it with 400 grit, until the surface looks dull with hundreds of tiny scratches.

I was battling to picture it, but that is damn sexy. I really want to do mine matte black, but nothing says "give me heatstroke" like a black landrover in Africa

So instead of being excited about my new paintjob I'm a bit bummed, cause I'm going to from "Shoot Me" Nato Green, which I really like, to a colour I'm not crazy about. Thinking about and original period landy colour like mid grey ?

I guess an orbital sander will be the easiest for that. Perhaps do a side at a time and a few coats.

Damn thing is to big to fit in my garage tho (to tall) so gonna have to be done ont he road.

I first started off with a grinder but found that it was too harsh so i ended up doing it all by hand, though that only took me about a day to sand the whole thing. The worst part if your doing it outside is the weather, it will either make or break your paintjob so make sure you check the forecast first!!:doh:

I still can't decide on a colour for mine, now leaning towards G4 Challenge Orange, but not really convinced about anything :doh:

LandyBerks it looks like you landy is Matte Black, how have you found that as a colour ? Has it been really hot etc ??

its actually army green. The bonnet is black tho. Only had it about 3 weeks. Tbh its so full of holes there is plenty of ventilation, esp with the gun turrets (thats what i call them) open and doing 70 on the motorway.

Yeah i still not decided on a colour/theme yet either. The pink one could be good for a laugh tho, cos its really not me. would surprise people lol.

That's mine, and although I guess Matte Black, or possibly Satin Black is not the most sensible colour for an expedition vehicle, it is still something I am considering ! I figure if I put a big ass extraction fan on the roof, it will offset the extra heat issues...

Or maybe do it like an SVX, but without the gay grill in the front, and subtly replace the number 60 with 69

Have used them before. All you have to do is provide the colour code and they will supply you with the paint. It only takes a couple of days to get it delivered too. Best of luck.
