Have a land rover series 3 lwb ex mod or ffr and I want to do away with the truck cab roof and fit a mod canvas but I need the hood sticks for the set it costs between £450-650 which is abit expensive and I will still need to get the canvas cover.

So I thought what about making the hood sticks myself I have all the tools and equipment in work to do the job save myself a lot of money and I love to fabricate so why not? so I was in need of dimensions of the hood sticks I could mock it up by eye but life would be so much easier if I had dimensions that I could use as guideline save wasting materials and prevent any miserable attempts?

am happy to share with you how I do it and the problems I face if anyone is interested

Could you not get a cheapie one off the bay to copy the critical dimensions.
like this?

cheers for having a look for me on ebay that is what I need even though by the looks of it came off swb but will do to get the project started and means less fabrication for me to do hopefully i'll pick it up at a low price as am kind of on a budget once again thanks Neilly i'll keep you updated to let you know how am getting on?

The hoops are pretty easy to make BUT the door surrounds & shark tooth rail above the windscreen are a bit more complex.....
yeah well I figured the hoops would be simple but yeah the shark tooth rail, didn't know it was called this haha must of been inspired by a shark tooth, would be complex you could easy make your own but then you would have to make your own canvas and am useless at textiles or upholstery so would like to keep everything as original makes life easier been down that road before where you end up changing everything then months later you think to yourself what am I doing.

but if you know anyone with a full canvas roof land rover any chance you could get dimensions don't know anyone well enough to approach and nearly asked a stranger filling up the other day but then thought to myself won't go down to well probably end up getting sectioned

Personally for the windscreen roof rail I would be tempted to order one premade.

The door tops and the sections at the back are not going to be easy to make , but if you feel comfortable doing it, then fair play.

Will be interesting to see the project .

Cheers

yeah well its the curve in the door tops am worried about I mean I've got a English wheel in work but to make either side identical gonna be tough but if I could get the dimensions of the door tops I reckon it would be easier to work out where to curve the metal rather than fabricating something from scratch. the door tops on the website are reasonably priced but to buy either side would cost £112 that would buy me a lot of sheet metal I tempted to buy them blueprint the door top then send them back alternatively I could ring to see if there willing to give me the dimensions even try my luck by getting the entire dimensions for the frame but honestly that's just to cheeky by my books. i'll post a couple of pictures of the project within the coming days its land rover s3 109 and am kinda in the process of turning it into 1ton got the shackles just need the wheels gear ratio should be fine as its got a 300tdi with a r380 gearbox transfer box should be to cope
let me know your thoughts
