hi all;
i just lost sound on my entire left side,on the right side there is music at the front and rear, but the left side is mute.i removed both parcel shelfs in the trunk and everything is connected properly, before that this happened the music was not cleared like there was interferance and low reception,
today i plugged the obd2 plug to clear some faults than after that i lost the music on the left side, dunno if it is related.is it from the unit or loose connections in the front door?are the rear speakers connected to the front in case the front amplifier is disconnected?
pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee help
thank you

It would seem as though your head unit (the main unit in the dash) is only putting audio out on the right side as though the balance was adjusted that way. It's unlikely to be the fuses as 1 fuse feeds both front door amps and 1 fuse feeds the rear door amps.
These door amplifiers require a signal to switch on which comes from a common point on the radio so it's unlikely to be that as well. Have you checked your balance isn't set to the right? If it's set to the middle, then I would think it's your radio that's at fault and will require sending off to Clarion (google Clarion service centre). They charge a fixed fee of around £75 to £80. For another £20 or so, they'll also install a MP3/iPod lead. Turn around is very fast and service absolutely excellent. Your radio comes back like new.

i found out that the radio screen was telling "mute" and i couldn't increase the volume more than half.i removed the fuse number 1 reseted the radio and still the same exept that the mute is gone and i can increase the volume to full now but still deaf from one side.so guess it is the unit like u said.by the way what is the black box mounted on the wall in the trunk under the parcel shelf?not the cd changer and woofer the other side?it can be removed by removing a metal wire thing holding it,when it is removed under it there is like a plug that enters the chassis board mounted on the floor?what does this box do?and can i install an aftermarket unit and still use the steering buttons?
thanks alot

I have no idea what the black box is. I presume you mean on the offside (right hand side looking from the back)?
People have fitted aftermarket units but it isn't a straight swap and can cause problems. It's doubtful that you could keep your steering wheel controls. There have been numerous threads on this in the past. You'll have to do a search I'm afraid. I'd just stick with the original. I don't think you're going to get much better sound (unless you wanted to fit a DVD or whatever).

yes the one on the right side looking from the back,it is attached on the wall.it is black rectangular almost 25 cm * 30 cm,it has a chasis on the wall and there is a wire that u pull to remove it pulling upward verticaly.

I thought the black box was an RF amplifier for the arials in the windows. I think you can get a 'magic box' for the steering wheel controls, seen them on ebay, but the issue is finding a head unit that will be compatable with the wiring on the HSE models (amps in doors etc.)

I have stuck with the standard Harmon Kardon kit

man i love everything oem in the rover from parts till gadgets.unfortunatly i am not in england and i will try my best to fix my unit dunno if i can find somebody capable enough, the screen of my unit is burned (the 2 light bulbs are illuminating) but u can't c digits unless ur in absolut darkness with ur head stuck on the dashboard looking from up down to the radio, and now with this full deaf side and weak reception,i dunno from where to start.connections or unit or rf amplifier as u called it.confused:confused::frusty:

The radio going into MUTE is caused by poor contacts on the steering wheel switches. The best way to fix this is to replace with new ones - they are not expensive. Is it possible that the strange box in the rear is part of a previous hands free kit that may be cutting the sound from the head unit?

I would hazard a guess it's part of a rather old mobile phone installation. I can't see this affecting only only one side of the audio. If it was going to affect anything, it would be both sides.
Whereabouts in the world are you?
I live in lebanon, midle east.so removing it won't affect anything?there is like antena black wiring going from its base under the carpet than it vanishes somewher under the carpet.i have checked the connections again everything is in the right place removed door panel everything is connected.what to do next?

Autofon ? Defintatly an old car phone install. I would still check all the harness for breaks where it was connected.

God damn p38.it's not enough already with all the p38 prob the previous owner had 2 install an antique fone kit, wht's wrong in holding the f cel and answering a call it got 2 b the f fone kit to f me up.after spending 3 hours checking the connections now i have 2 check under the carpet also!pro after pro in this truck and my wallet is empty.add to that the starting pro from warm.i thought it was fixed when i discovered a loose vacume from fuel regulator 2 plenum but noooo... It had 2 be more serious nothing is simple in the p38.no faults r present in the testbook abt the warm start pro all sensors r normal which leaves: replcing the fuel regulator, cleaning injectors, replacing the 2 ways plastic valve and the fuel pump valve.now i have a duff radio,a duff warm start a duff hevac unit a duff front wheel bearing.duno from where 2 start
