Hiya bet you are all getting fed up of me by now

Im now completely on my own getting this car on the road again. i had a mechanic booked to do it but after letting me down for the 3rd day in a row ive asked them to return her and i will do it myself.(im now completely carless)
he reckons all she needed doing was a really good battery charge and the distributor timing/tuning in.

Now how ive been told to do this is to get someone to turn her over while the distributor is slowely being turned, is this the whole distributor or just the arm?
am i to turn it replace it then turn the ignition?
Thanks in advance

:wtf: I take it you have no mechanical experience, sounds like a disaster waiting to happen.
At very least a manual and a strobe timing light

you need to undo distributor base clamp so with gentle pressure the whole distributor moves, but is not floppy.
As you stand in front of the car cyl no 1 is passenger side nearest you.

On the crank pulley is 0 degrees top dead centre(the engine rotates clockwise as you stand in front of the open bonnet).

Turn the engine to about 10 degrees before top dead centre.

Remove distributor cap and the rotor arm needs to be in vicinity of plug lead 1,replace cap and get helper to crank it and it is then a case of small incremental movements until it splutters and runs.

The timing must be correctly set before driving-see if you can get it to run first
