can a 1.8 engine that has a coil pack be used in replacement for a dizzy engine? is it a case of just swapping the coil pack for the dizzy or would it be easier to swap the heads over? the current engine is a dizzy version but is dead at the bottom end.
thanks
jim

Iirc the exhaust cam is different but is an easy swap. The cam cover is different as there is a Cam position sensor in it. The engine harness is different so you would need to use the existing one but I think the rest is pretty straitforward.
I'd not remove the head if it can be avoided ;)

thanks for advice looks sraightforward enough, just got to locate a good engine now!!!

It just shows the different answers you can get to the same problem. I asked more or less the same question as you a few weeks back and got the it uses different ecu etc, but I couldn't see why it couldn't be done as once the distributor and the camshaft is changed what the ECU had to do with it once these were removed so I went ahead and did it and it works fine.

i can't believe the cheeky so and so got an answer at all, seeing as though he didn't even introduce himself first:rolleyes:

It would depend on who answered the question I guess? As you say, the ECU is irrelevant as long as you use the ancillarys/ exhaust cam from the earlier engine ;)
