I thought the upper body sections didn't need a lot of work, but they have been in the back room and I haven't looked at them since March when they came off the Landy.

I thought it would just be a case of drilling out the pop rivets, but most of them look hidden or the heads look 'moulded' in to the plates.

This picture shows the inside where you can see the end of the rivets

However, from the outside there are only two heads!

How is the aluminium skin fixed to the steel and ali frame? Is it bonded with adhesive? :(

Any successful strategies for getting it all apart?

why are you taking it apart? the alloy corrosion should just scrape and sand back to clean alloy, and the steel rust unless it is totally rotten, should just clean up and paint.

Stripping them down will be a mare, and the "moulded" dots are spot welds which will need drilling and splitting, which would distort the panels.

If they are too rusty get better one secondhand.

I was thinking it would be best to get the steel bits off, rub them down and paint them, and rivet them back in. You're probably right and its a step too far

Obviously, you set off with big ideas about doing things as perfectly as possible, but I think you have to make some compromises.
