Evening all.

My dad caught the offroading bug after venturing into the mud with me about a year ago, and we sourced him a relatively bargain 3.9 on LPG. The plugs and leads and dizzy are a bit tired and old so we haven't bothered running it on LPG yet, indeed the idle is a bit fluttery on petrol, so doubt it would run atall on gas the way it is. Anyway, to cut a long story short we're finally getting around to servicing it and getting it running on gas.... woo farking hoo.

As it stands the Disco has two 30 litre torpedo tanks under the sills, but we want to relocate these into the boot for two reasons. Mainly, to get them out of harms way as the Disco was bought to go play in the rough stuff, and secondly, it's MOT time coming up and I know I'll need to weld the sills up a bit as they're rusted where the mountings for the tanks have been drilled into them and not sealed and protected.

My question is, being a diesel man, and not a petrol and definitely not an LPG man, is the relocation of the tanks a safe home job, assuming ofcourse the tanks are fully empty?

Will raising the tanks higher up have any bearing on the fuel delivery?

Is the material (pipe) needed to extend the fuel lines into the boot easily available off the shelf, and what grade/pressure rating and type of material do I need?

And what's the best way to seal the joints in the fuel lines when connecting them? PTFE tape?

And whilst I'm on the subject does an LPG system need to be regularly tested to ensure there are no leaks and is it part of the MOT?

Naturally before we do any of this we will fill it up after servicing it to see if the LPG system actually works since we've had it a year and never ran it on gas.

Personally i would pal up a local LPG fitter and see what he thinks about a DIY job.

if he doesnt want to help you out on a DIY job then he's not very friendly.

he can supply you with parts and maybe an hours labouyr here and there, and he can do your gas inspection (often required for insurance)

tbh i dont know much about LPG :D
