discovery td5

Hi all, i have a 2000/v disco td5 auto and the lights on the dash are:

abs, the TC light?, the ! hill light, etc. Can i get these removed easily?

could just be a abs sensor but you realy need to get it pluged in or you could just be spending money in the wrong place but yo could try the conectors and jacking each wheel up to see if there is any play in the wheel berings (hope not because they are expensive £155 each)

You need to get the vehicle plugged into diagnostic equipment. Before you do it worth checkin all the conections in the abs system. Its also worth cleaning the ABS earths. which earth to the body. Then getting the fault code cleared as it may not come up again failing that you know that the earths and conections are good so then it would be time to start looking at the ABS sensor. You can buy just the sensor but these do not prove very good as its extremly hard to get the right air gap on the sensor. The best route to go if you do end up fitting a sensor is changing the entire hub which also houses the wheel bearing. Good luck. Dan

Could be bearings i suppose, there is a bit of wobble under braking.

Make sure of it because the wheel bearing is exspensive!

if it is the bearings then look here (link below) that is where i got mine from but vibration under braking is more likley to be brake disks but shoud not be the cause of the warning lights

Incredible! I am not alone it seems, strangely i feel a bit better about it!

get the fault read at a 'good' independant LR specialist

They will need to hook up the car to a 'Testbook' Computer to trace the fault.
Chances are it's an ABS/TC sensor in one of the wheel hubs that is giving grief.

if you are handy with a spanner you could remove the sensors and clean them and thier electrical connection, but this may not clear the fault. best get the computer read.

You will probably end up forking out for an hour on testbook and a new sensor...

Thanks for that, i am good with spanners so may do it myself. What would a specialist want time-wise do you think to clean said sensors?

start with the front:
take off the wheel and brake disk, clean around sensor area (with a toothbrush or something) before removing with an allen key, be very carefull not to drop any crud inside the hole in the hub when you remove the sensor (including the little O ring) as this may properly screw the ABS/TC up! take out the sensor and give it a wipe as it maybe splattered in grease and put it back.
Trace the wire back up into the inner wing about 18" and you will find an electrical connection, unplug it, pack it with vaseline or silicone grease and reconnect it.
Repeat for all corners...

It's a long shot, but a free one..!

If this dont sort it then get the fault read on the computer...
