I'm just after signing in and see your question. I have a 2001 TD5 HSE model and have had nothing but trouble with it since I got it 5 years ago. Here is a small list of problems
New gear box
Roof lights leaking
A/C replaced
Radiator leaking
suspension bags replaced twice
At the moment it is in the garage (again) - there is a leak in some pipe which resulted in me being stranded on the motorway with no coolant/water.
the gear box is stiffening up
I am now very angry and would willingly sell it on or indeed pay for someone to take it.
Sorry about the rant but maybe 2001 is not a good year!!!

maybe you just bought a pile o ****e:rolleyes:

early td5's had problems with the cylinder heads but are getting to an age where they should all have been sorted by now. just go for the latest you can find that looks like it's been cared for.

when i got mine i looked at loads and they were all crocks of ****, and some of them were at 'reputable' independent dealers. some had rotten chassis's hidden buy fresh patches of waxoyl, shot suspension or mouldy interiors. i dropped on mine at a local general car dealer by accident. its a 1999 xs and had been serviced every 5k from new and was by far the best i had seen. its been a mint motor and the only thing i have done in 1 1/2 years is a new injector harnesss and put on new grabber at2's. don't buy the first one you see unless its spot on.

Thanks for the replys guys most helpful I can see it taking some time before I get a good one will just see what comes up

Cheers

surely all of these problems would have been spotted when you were looking at the car and price haggled down accordingly?

errr no i did spot PAS but on collection he had cleaned engine and said was leaking pipe
the manifold blowing he said was belt slipping i not a mechanic and like a **** belived him the thrush bearing only makes a noise when cold so the car was always warm when i look at it and collected it and the coolant level was ok and ****ty air suspension goes down at night so again he made sure it was up
