I'm just after signing in and see your question. I have a 2001 TD5 HSE model and have had nothing but trouble with it since I got it 5 years ago. Here is a small list of problems
New gear box
Roof lights leaking
A/C replaced
Radiator leaking
suspension bags replaced twice
At the moment it is in the garage (again) - there is a leak in some pipe which resulted in me being stranded on the motorway with no coolant/water.
the gear box is stiffening up
I am now very angry and would willingly sell it on or indeed pay for someone to take it.
Sorry about the rant but maybe 2001 is not a good year!!!
Hi Guys
Just sold my 300tdi and want to get a dicovery td5 however my mate told me theres certain years that I should avoid due to problem's, just looking for some advice on what years to go for ?

i just got my first td5 after a few 300tdi and i wish i had never bothered after having the car a couple of weeks i have had
PAS pump
water pump
im having a coil conversion sick of air **** keep going wrong
exhaust manifold blowing
thrush bearin in clutch
oh happy days
A neighbour bought a TD5 after owning a 300 and reckoned that the TD5 didnt pull anywhere near as well as his 300
Well it's fooked then
the thing in the clutch lol and as for economy then no a 300tdi is better than a td5 used to get about 35 mpg from the 300 and get about 25mpg from the td5that must be irritating
