I have a 2000 td5 auto that runs on 4 cylinders for up to 1 min when first started in the morning or at the end of the day (if cold). Also it won't drive until it's running on all 5, you can put it into drive and try to accelerate and it won't even pick up any engine revs.

Its had a cylinder head so all the sundry bits swapped inc the injector loom replaced and the ecu red plug cleaned out regularly, its also had silicon hoses and a new turbo, fuel filter swapped and system purged several times, so id be interested in any suggestions as I had it down now to a faulty injector.

Ive had it on the nano com and it shows irregular fuelling but can identify a single injector as they all seem to jump all over until its sorted itself out.

Get it to a garage and get them to do a leak back test on it, this will help direct you.

It could be an injector but it could be alot of other things. Im not to sure on these engine so wont be lots of help but maybe check the cold start (choke) system?

Ive replaced all the glow plugs no difference, its just odd because sometimes it fine after 5-10 secs other times it can be up to 1 min.

What does a leak back test involve?

my thoughts would be low fuel pressure, dicky pressure regulator.
thats possibly why you can,t determin a specific injector

pu a new air bleed valve in the fuel filter cap's rear outer pipe connection.... it's not expensive and very easy to replace(WJN500110)

Being a TD5 i would expect you can do live data readings, i would suggest to take to a garage and check the fuel pressure, whilst you are reading it you can check all the other electrical stuff as well.

mine did that, but was decided it was no. 1 injector, Well it wasn't it, had no compression on no. one cylinder, So knowing what I know now i'd get this checked first before throughing expensive parts at it.

(the only difference mine started like this then when to missing all the time, still have the min when first starts where it wont rev)
