hi, i have a problem with my disco td5 2002,its hard to start after a while, fuel pump changed twice, there was oil in the ecu red plug so i changed the injectors wiring loom,no oil in the ecu, heaters changed as they all were kracked, fuel filter changed twice one time with its housing too, i changed the fuel regulator and i stopped half way home, when it hardly started it was running on 4 pistons, very rough and missfiring, now im going to change all the injectors with 5 good used ones. is there something else to change so this landy can work ? i read that some guys in forums says that they have changed the engine wiring harness, any help please:(
regards
chris

Happened To mine few weeks ago diagnostic machine said injector had an open circuit, it was oil that had got into the injection wiring harness, i changed it before it could run into the main engine wiring harness. I would take out the injector wiring and have a good clean out.

Once again, the symptoms sound exactly like a failed lower copper washer between the injector tip and the fuel gallery.

Mine did exactly this, and ONE injector had a blown washer.

The black carbon was clear to see.

Search my posts of about two years back and there's a good explanation.

I am pretty sure this is your problem.

DO NOT SWAP INJECTORS! If you do take them out make sure they go back in the same holes! In a TD5 THIS MATTERS!

I believe it was an injector washer CharlesY. I think he got it sorted during the week.:)

Thanks.

Those of us who have some experience and who try to help, are always better off if we hear what sorts other peoples' problems.

That we can help even more people with even more problems to save even more cash by not having to hand it over to even more main stealers.

I wouldn't mind knowing how much money this forum has saved for how many people, myself included!

Thanks Battenberg, and Eightinavee !

I think it would add up to a fair old sum.

I'd also like to see the bill for those that decided against following advise given here.;):D

Cripes! I hadn't thought of that!
Imagine taking any car to any main dealer. You know before you start that they are incompetent, tell lies, and will rob you blind.

My mob up here said they would fit cruise control to my TD5 Disco, £840 plus VAT, take three days, and they would hire me a car cheap!

I fitted it inside an hour and for under £40 after speaking to this forum about it, and getting the switches and little bracket. When I phoned the main dealer "service" manager to tell him why I wasn't booking the Disco in he hung up on me, twice. "SERVICE" ! What a joke.

DIY has a lot in its favour.

I have just been sorting a miss fire on my disco TD5, found the oil in the wiring harness and replaced it last night.
The oil was all the way down to the ecu plug, i replaced the wiring harness in the rocker cover and gave the rest a good clean. It has all but cleared the missfire, i can just sort of feel a slight miss if you know what i mean.
Does the wiring to the ECU end need replacing or will the il gradually clear the lower wiring. Cant see it being anything else as the improvement so far just by changing the top harness has all but cured the problem, if it were injectors it would surely still be as bad. Like i say almost perfect.
Any advice would be good thanks.

Yes, the oil in the loom will take a while to drain out via the red plug - keep checking and cleaning the plug until it stops getting oiled up. I also found oil in the CKP sensor plug and a few others, it doesn't take too long to flush them all out with an aerosol de-greaser spray.
