discovery td5 brakes

i hope i can describe the problem correctly:doh:

on my 04 disco td5 auto sometimes when i press the brakes the pedal appears to be hard and the motor is slow to stop no matter how hard i press the pedal it will not stop the disco. if i lift off the pedal quickly and repress the brakes everything is ok? this only happens sometimes, more so when the brakes have been used a few times, and when heavy braking with the trailer on, again not all the time

i have replaced all the pads, checked the pistons all move in the calipers, bleed the system but the problem is still here.

what else can i check?

what pads did you use?

Have you checked the master cyclinder and vaccum supply to it?

Stick on on a nanocom and get a read out form the slabs ecu. Let us know whcih part fo the o****ry your in sure someone near by will have one.

Have you removed or has someone else the egr and not do the vaccum pipes ciorrectly?

i removed the egr will check that i have connected the vacumn pipes correctly:doh:

Find a very steep hill, point the disco down, give it the mother of all beans until you reach warp factor mamma mia.

Then press the brake pedal...if you survive then the pipes are connected correctly.

it happened again this morning

sounds like an abs fault?
again getting the ecu read would be a good idea.
if it were mine i would not be driving it till i had it checked out properly

Sounds like a classic case of no vac assistance, I would DOUBLE check the EGR blanking, if in doubt refit ALL the EGR pipes (except one to valve) and see if it happens again, my guess is it wont.

many thanks everyone all sorted

checked all the vac pipes and found one split. it was one of the small pipes, as i had removed the EGR i followed the TD5 link and aslo removed the wiring connectors

took the disco out for a test drive OMG what a differents to the brakes, tested them until they where hot but was still able to stop yessssssssssssssssssss
