Hello guys, I’m new to this forum stuff so I’m just gonna go with it and see how far I get,
I’m in the process of replacing the power steering pump on my 04 discovery td5. The question I need answering is does the system need to be bled or will it self bleed once I start the engine.
Any help would e much appreciated

Hi and Wellcome, on my Disco1 it pretty much self bleeds, fill system up, start engine and turn from lock to lock
It will make some noise as the air is purged, top up and check for leaks,
On top of my box is a bleed nipple that you crack open while you fill up the reservoir to get air out,

Hi Europa, thanks for the prompt reply. It sounds strange forward so I’ll crack on and give it a go.
I’ve set myself a new year resolution to have no oil leaks, a tall order I know considering the car but at some point in its life it was dry so that’s what I’m aiming for. Thanks again for the advice

Hi, download this https://www.dropbox.com/sh/47hbz40an5he5j2/AABYJTmOSmlWjXq5_Mczvua6a/Workshop manual.pdf?dl=0 and go the ''steering - adjustments" there you see how to bleed, in my experience it's a good move to bleed it yourself rather than let it bleed itself eventually

Hi Sierrafery, again many thanks for the reply I’ve never been so popular . Bleeding manually I reckon is the way to go so thanks for the advice
